Netatmo Presence Mount Bracket: A Replacement Base Plate For Walls

I needed a replacement Netatmo Presence mount plate after some visiting thieves had smashed the smart outdoor camera off my wall. It appears that Netatmo do not sell a new spare Netatmo Presence mount by any means.

Having designed and had made a much stronger replacement for this fragile plastic component, we are listing them for others to buy (or copy if you wish, imitation is considered very sincere flattery).

Netatmo Presence Mount vs Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera Mount.

Don’t you just love it when someone renames a product on you. These are the same item, using the same mount, with a pair of different names attached.

The original Netatmo Presence, now rebranded the Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera, is supplied with a moulded plastic base to provide protection for the electrics and to allow the camera to swivel.

It takes a thief one gentle swing with not very much to obliterate the base, leaving you with a £200 netatmo smart outdoor camera that you can’t easily mount on the wall.

The Original Netatmo Presence Mount

It’s not very strong. It’s a light piece of plastic, with a small metal wall bracket. The whole thing is fixed together with one m6 fastener.

And the important bit, that offers the swivel part of the tilt and swivel capabilities (as well as some waterproofing for the electrics) looks like this:

A robust version of the broken netatmo presence mount above is required.

Heavy Duty Replacement Netatmo Smart Camera Mount

We designed the following replacement Netatmo Presence Mount.

It’s two short lengths of angle iron, and a section of pipe. It’s very heavy duty, and it’s welded together by professionals (sadly my enthusiastic amateur had burned his fingers, and did not want to play).

Production versions will have a hole rather than a slot in the pipe section. The slot is not required and adds complexity.

I fixed mine using a couple of 5 * 50 screws into brown rawlplugs, but the bolt holes are large enough you could also use expanding bolts to get the job done.

Production versions of the replacement netatmo smart camera mount will also be supplied with the washers and lock nut shown above. These replace the captive nut in the old mount.

This replacement netatmo mount offers full articulation, like the original presence mounting base did:

You will need a 10mm spanner to hold the nut behind the bracket while you tighten the original allen key from the front.

With the camera mounted it looks just like an indestructible version of the original netatmo presence mount:

In order to waterproof the electrics you will need a small external waterproof box. The picture below shows a Wyska 108 box, which is a lovely simple waterproof enclosure – Around £3 from your favourite electrical wholesaler.

If you fitted the original – you can fix this to the wall. It’s identical in complexity (and you won’t be doing it again either!).

Underneath the new mount the caulk used to seal the old mount to the wall can be clearly seen. The below is the finished article:
