Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss has excellent flow, gloss and durability and offers great flexibility and water resistance in all weather conditions. So, when its a deep high gloss finish with excellent U.V. protection and no sanding in between coats that you are looking for, Wood Finish Gloss is the perfect choice. Opaque in the can and dries clear amber with an ultra high gloss. For long lasting protection of all marine or household woods, interior and exterior wood above the waterline.
Wood Finish Durability
The photograph below shows a properly maintained exterior varnish finish using Epifanes wood finish gloss. We took this photograph in 2025, six years after initial varnishing.
This finish will last in excess of 20 years with correct maintenance. You can see how to achieve this in our how to varnish properly article.
Priming Before Varnishing
We advise that Smiths CPES is used as a primer and not thinned varnish. It is a far better primer, and can offer a varnish finish that will last in excess of 20 years with correct maintenance. This is probably as important as building up the correct dry film thickness and the ong term maintenance of the varnish to ensure durability. We sell Epifanes and CPES bundled together as a kit with both items discounted. Remember – to make varnish last:
- Prime properly
- Apply the correct amount of good varnish – 1/2 litre per sq metre
- Maintain the finish properly

We stock this varnish as it is significantly easier to build up the high number of coats required for durability of a varnish finish. This should always be used on a CPES primed surface for the best results and maximum durability. If you buy these together as a Permanent Exterior Varnishing Kit you will get them both at a discount Some of our customers like to use Wood Finish Varnish for the base coats, and finish with one or two coats of Epifanes High Gloss Varnish.
